Tottenham's Omar Marmoush Deal Amid Manchester City Raids

Tottenham’s attacking rebuild has kicked up another gear, and it’s Manchester City feeling the tug on their squad again.

Just days after striking an agreement for winger Savinho, Spurs have now reached a verbal deal to bring Omar Marmoush to north London, according to Fabrizio Romano. The move comes at the end of a week that has laid bare exactly why Ange Postecoglou wants more firepower.

On Saturday, Tottenham were swept aside 3-0 by Brentford, registering only four shots on target. The performance underlined what the numbers had already been hinting at: this squad still needs cutting edge in the final third.

Spurs have wasted no time.

Marmoush deal: loan now, obligation later

Romano reports that Tottenham and Manchester City have a verbal agreement in place for Marmoush on an initial loan. Built into that is a buy clause set at £50million, which will become mandatory if certain conditions are triggered during the season.

Marmoush has already given the green light to the move. He is expected in north London on Monday to undergo a medical, after which he can complete the formalities and sign.

For Tottenham, the structure is crucial. The obligation to buy sits in the future, not on this summer’s balance sheet, giving the club breathing space after a huge window of spending.

It is also a value play. Spurs are on course to pay less for the Egyptian striker than City did when they signed him from the Bundesliga around 18 months ago.

Savinho already secured

The Marmoush agreement lands on top of a marquee deal already in the bag.

David Ornstein revealed that Tottenham have reached an agreement to sign Savinho from Manchester City in a transfer that could rise to £85million. Spurs will pay £75m up front, with a further £10m in potential add-ons, £5m of which are described as highly achievable.

Early estimates suggested Tottenham might need around £150m to bring both Savinho and Marmoush through the door. That figure has shifted.

With Marmoush’s fee set at £50m and tied to conditions, the combined outlay for the two City forwards now stands at £135m rather than the initially feared £150m.

The bigger financial picture

Tottenham’s summer has already been heavy on the chequebook. The club have spent around £230m before these latest City raids, and the expectation of a £150m double swoop had threatened to push the total to a staggering £380m.

Instead, the current projection sits at £365m if Marmoush’s clause is eventually activated.

Crucially, the obligation to buy Marmoush will not hit immediately. That delay offers Tottenham some protection as they navigate financial regulations after such a large outlay in a single window.

Two forwards from the champions’ stable, one already secured and another about to land for a structured fee that undercuts City’s own purchase price. Spurs wanted a new attacking era. Now they have to prove all this spending actually turns chances into goals.
