Sávio Joins Spurs for £85m Transfer from Manchester City

Tottenham have finally got their man. After a year of chasing, a deal worth up to £85 million has prised Sávio away from Manchester City and dropped a new headline act into north London.

The pursuit started last summer. It ends with one of Europe’s most coveted young forwards pulling on a Spurs shirt.

“It’s taken a while but I’m very happy to be here,” Sávio said after completing the move. “It’s a wonderful opportunity at a brilliant club with one of the best managers in the world. As soon as I spoke to the head coach I knew I had to come. He told me he wants to help me reach the highest level, and I believe we can do that together, as a team.”

That conversation with Roberto De Zerbi proved decisive. The Italian’s football has long attracted attacking players; now he has another winger built for his high-tempo, risk-taking style.

“Sávio is a player who brings energy, imagination and quality in wide positions,” De Zerbi said. “He has the courage to attack defenders and the ability to change a game with his creativity. We’re very pleased to have him with us, and I’m looking forward to working with him, helping him continue to grow and seeing him bring his personality to the team.”

A year at City, a new stage at Spurs

Sávio arrives with his best years ahead of him but with a taste of the elite already on his CV. The Brazilian made 53 appearances for City after joining from Troyes in 2024, contributing two goals and 12 assists. Not a starring role, but enough to show flashes of what he can do in a squad stacked with attacking talent.

Tottenham believe there is far more to come once he is given responsibility and minutes.

“Sávio is someone who has been on our radar for a while and I’m delighted that he is now a Tottenham Hotspur player,” said sporting director Johan Lange. “He has already shown his quality at the highest level, and we believe his ability, style and mentality will be a great fit for the squad we are building here. I know he will excite our supporters every time he gets on the ball and I’m looking forward to watching his development under Roberto’s coaching.”

A summer of heavy investment

This is not an isolated splash. Sávio’s arrival pushes Spurs’ summer outlay beyond the £300m mark, a window that underlines the scale of the rebuild under De Zerbi and the club’s hierarchy.

Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke have all come in for significant fees. Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson and Martin Dúbravka have arrived as free agents, adding experience and depth across the pitch.

Money has flowed out as well. Cristian Romero, Djed Spence and Luka Vuskovic have departed, bringing in substantial funds and reshaping the spine and the age profile of the squad.

This is a club in transition, but not one drifting. The numbers alone show intent.

A timely lift for a thin forward line

The need for attacking reinforcement was laid bare on the opening weekend. In the Premier League curtain-raiser against Brentford, De Zerbi turned to 19-year-old academy product Mikey Moore to start on the right wing. It was a bold call, and a sign of how stretched Spurs were in the forward areas.

Sávio changes that picture immediately. He gives De Zerbi another option out wide, another player who can carry the ball, commit defenders and open up low blocks that have so often frustrated Tottenham in recent seasons.

For Spurs, this is an expensive bet on potential and personality. For Sávio, it is the chance he wanted: a club prepared to build around his talent, a coach promising to push him to his ceiling, and a fanbase that will demand fireworks every time he picks up the ball.
