Mohamed Salah Shines in Trabzonspor's Victory Over Basaksehir
Mohamed Salah wasted no time announcing himself in Turkey, hitting a decisive brace as Trabzonspor edged Istanbul Basaksehir 2-1.
The former Liverpool star, who signed a two-year deal with the Super Lig club at the start of August, had eased his way in with a debut off the bench in last week’s 1-1 draw at Kasimpasa. This time he was in from the start. This time he took over.
Named in the XI on Sunday, Salah needed just eight minutes to make his mark, striking the opener to ignite the home crowd and give Trabzonspor early control.
Basaksehir hit back. On 19 minutes, Eldor Shomurodov stepped up to the spot and calmly slotted in the equaliser, dragging the visitors level and briefly silencing the stadium.
The reset did not last long.
Three minutes into the second half, Salah struck again, restoring Trabzonspor’s lead with his second of the night and underlining exactly why the club moved for him this summer. That goal proved enough. Trabzonspor held firm, managed the game, and closed out their first league win of the campaign with their new talisman at the heart of it.
Next up, they return to Super Lig duty on August 31, when they face Amed SK with Salah already looking like the man their season will revolve around.
