Manchester United Eye Alejandro Balde Move

Manchester United have turned their attention to Barcelona full-back Alejandro Balde as they step up the search for a new left-back, with the defender’s situation at the La Liga champions growing increasingly delicate.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reports that United have made contact with Balde’s camp in recent days to gauge whether a move away from Barcelona is realistic and on what terms a deal could be done. The club see left-back as their next key position to address after wrapping up a deal for Carlos Baleba.

Balde’s future, once seemingly nailed to Catalonia for the long term, has drifted into uncertainty. The 21-year-old is coming off a difficult 2025/26 campaign disrupted by injury, a season that stalled the rapid rise which had made him one of Europe’s most coveted young full-backs.

The landscape shifted again in the second half of last season. Hansi Flick leaned heavily on João Cancelo on the left, preferring the Portuguese defender in the run-in. With Cancelo’s permanent return to the Spotify Camp Nou confirmed this week, Balde now stares at the prospect of spending the coming year as second choice.

That pecking order, combined with Barcelona’s ongoing need to balance the books, has fuelled suggestions that the club could be tempted to cash in if a substantial offer lands on the table. The door is not wide open, but it is no longer bolted shut.

United have sensed that crack. Romano states: “Manchester United keep looking for new left back, next priority after Baleba deal. There have been calls with Alejandro Balde's camp over last days to understand if exit is possible and conditions.”

For now, the player is not pushing. The report makes it clear Balde remains happy at Barcelona and content at the Spotify Camp Nou, where he came through the ranks and broke into the first team with such promise.

So the situation is finely poised. Barcelona hold a talented asset who may not start. United hold an obvious need on the left. The question is whether interest and opportunity harden into an offer that forces a decision on one of Europe’s brightest young full-backs.
