Manchester United Completes £70m Deal for Carlos Baleba
Manchester United have reached an agreement worth up to £70m with Brighton for midfielder Carlos Baleba, accelerating their late push to reshape the heart of Erik ten Hag’s side.
A breakthrough came in talks on Friday evening, clearing the way for the 22-year-old to undergo a medical ahead of his move to Old Trafford. Once that is completed, only the final formalities will stand between the Cameroon international and his switch to United.
United moved decisively for Baleba this week after choosing to add yet more power and depth to their midfield. The deal follows the arrivals of Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa, underlining a clear strategy to rebuild the core of the team with younger, high-ceiling options.
The agreement will see United pay an initial £65m, with a further £5m tied to performance-related add-ons. Brighton have also secured a sell-on clause, protecting their long-term interest if Baleba’s value soars in Manchester.
Now the focus turns to the medical and paperwork. If all goes to plan, United’s midfield could soon look very different – and far more competitive – by the time the new season settles into its stride.
