Loïc Mbe Soh Joins Sparta Prague from Sint-Truiden

Loïc Mbe Soh is on the move again. This time, the former Paris Saint-Germain and Nottingham Forest defender is swapping Belgium for the Czech Republic, leaving Sint-Truiden to join Sparta Prague.

The 25-year-old only arrived at Sint-Truiden in January, brought in as a mid-season replacement for Rein Van Helden after his switch to Antwerp. He didn’t take long to settle. Mbe Soh played 14 games in the run-in as Sint-Truiden made history, clinching European football for the first time in the club’s existence. This season he had already featured twice before Sparta stepped in.

The Czech champions have paid around €3m to secure his services, rewarding a defender whose career has zigzagged across Europe but is now gathering momentum again.

Mbe Soh’s story began in the PSG academy, where he was regarded as one of the more promising young centre-backs. He broke into the first team just enough to taste it, making three senior appearances, before opting for a different path in 2020 and joining Nottingham Forest.

England never quite unfolded as planned. Over four seasons at Forest he managed only 13 games and one goal, his opportunities squeezed by competition and managerial changes. To find minutes, he went out on loan — first to Guingamp in France, then to Almere City in the Netherlands — searching for rhythm and responsibility.

In 2024, that chapter closed. Mbe Soh left Forest on a free transfer and moved to Beerschot in the Belgian Pro League. There, at last, he played. He made 52 appearances for the club, experiencing both sides of the game’s brutality and resilience: relegation from the top flight in his first full season, then a push for promotion the following year.

That resurgence earned him his January switch to Sint-Truiden, where his impact was immediate and tangible in their European qualification drive. Now comes Sparta Prague, European football on the table again, and a club betting that a defender hardened by setbacks is ready to anchor a back line chasing titles and continental nights.
