Liverpool's Bradley Barcola Transfer Hits Crossroads as Arsenal Looms

Liverpool’s pursuit of Bradley Barcola has hit a dangerous crossroads – and Arsenal are hovering.

The Paris Saint-Germain winger has been Liverpool’s priority target for much of the summer. Personal terms are understood to be agreed, the player is keen on Anfield, and for weeks the move has felt like a matter of when, not if.

The problem is the fee. And that’s where the door has opened for a rival.

Arsenal back in the frame

CaughtOffside report that Arsenal are ready to re-enter the race as talks between Liverpool and PSG stall over Barcola’s price.

Liverpool are said to value the 23-year-old at a maximum of £120m. PSG, fresh from their European triumph and under no pressure to sell cheaply, want £130m up front plus up to £15m in add-ons.

That gap has not closed.

French journalist Fabrice Hawkins claimed last week that “everyone involved” expected an agreement to be reached, clearing the way for Barcola to become a Liverpool player. Yet another source has now warned that Arsenal “haven’t completely gone away” and are watching the situation closely.

According to that source, quoted by CaughtOffside: “Liverpool and PSG still have no agreement on Barcola; there’s a significant gap in valuation. Arsenal haven’t completely gone away and could aggressively enter the conversation again if it becomes clear this deal is really stalling.”

The Gunners are said to be kept fully briefed on developments and it’s claimed Barcola could be “tempted” by a move to north London, despite already giving the green light to Liverpool.

Right now, Liverpool remain his preferred destination. But preference only counts for so much when a transfer drags on and another Champions League contender is ready to move.

A £10m question Liverpool can’t ignore

Liverpool’s stance is understandable. No elite club wants to be strong-armed into paying beyond its valuation, particularly at the very top end of the market.

Yet the stakes are obvious. If the difference between landing Barcola and losing him is effectively £10m, that becomes a strategic decision rather than a purely financial one.

Walk away, and you risk watching a long-term target walk straight into the dressing room of a direct Premier League rival. Pay up, and you secure a 23-year-old France international widely viewed as a top-level attacking talent for the next decade.

This is not a marginal call on a squad player. It is a defining move at the sharp end of the window.

Squad needs and shrinking time

Andoni Iraola heads into today’s Premier League opener against Newcastle with Federico Chiesa as his only natural right winger. Barcola is primarily a left-sided forward, but he has already shown he can operate across the front line at the highest level.

That versatility is exactly what Liverpool’s attack has leaned on in recent years. It is also what makes him so attractive to Arsenal.

At PSG, Barcola has been frozen out as the uncertainty over his future drags on. That limbo helps no one on the player’s side, but it should embolden Liverpool’s sporting director Richard Hughes.

An assertive offer, close enough to PSG’s demands to force a decision, could finally break the deadlock.

A potential gut punch

For Liverpool, missing out on Barcola at this stage would sting. Watching him walk into Arsenal’s squad would be something far worse.

Nine days remain in the window. The saga has reached the point where hesitation carries almost as much risk as overspending.

Liverpool wanted Barcola. Barcola wants Liverpool. PSG want their price. Arsenal are waiting to see who blinks.
