Joël Piroe Joins West Ham on Loan from Leeds

Leeds United have confirmed that Joël Piroe has joined West Ham United on loan for the rest of the 2026/27 campaign, sending one of their key promotion forwards into a Championship battle of his own.

The Surinamese striker, now 27, arrived at Elland Road from Swansea City in August 2023 on the back of a 19-goal season in the second tier. He wasted no time justifying the move. Thrown straight into Daniel Farke’s side, he debuted against Ipswich Town in the Championship just two days after signing – and marked the occasion with his first Leeds goal.

That early impact set the tone. Piroe went on to make 53 appearances in all competitions in his debut season in West Yorkshire, scoring 16 times and quickly becoming a central figure in Farke’s attack.

The following year he went up another level. Across 48 outings, Piroe hit 19 goals as Leeds were crowned champions and clinched their return to the Premier League. His scoring streak earned him the Golden Boot, underlining his status as one of the most reliable finishers in the division.

Now he heads to the London Stadium, where West Ham are trying to engineer their own immediate return to the top flight after relegation last season. They are banking on Piroe’s proven Championship pedigree to sharpen their promotion push.

Leeds, in announcing the deal, thanked Piroe for his contribution and wished him well for his spell in claret and blue at West Ham.
