Jacob Devaney Aims for Trophies at Hibernian

Jacob Devaney has set his sights high at Hibernian, insisting he is in Edinburgh to chase trophies after sealing a loan move from Manchester United.

The 19-year-old midfielder, who spent the second half of last season on loan at St Mirren, joins with Hibs holding an option to make the deal permanent – a clear signal that this is more than just a short-term stop.

Devaney arrives on the back of an eye-catching pre-season with United and wasted no time outlining his ambitions.

"I'm really excited to be here," he told HibsTV. "I've been in training the past two days and I've really enjoyed it - the feel of the club and the training ground."

What drew him north again? The scale of the challenge – and the club.

"The size of the club [was what attracted me]. Playing here last season played a big part in me coming here and European competition as well - hopefully we qualify on Thursday night.

"I know the expectation of Hibs, of the fans. I want to push for titles, whether that's the league or cups, and obviously getting to Europe as well."

This is not a youngster talking about settling in quietly. Devaney wants responsibility. He wants the ball. He wants the pressure.

Despite his age, he believes he can be a driving force in David Gray’s side.

"It was definitely the right decision for me to come up to Scotland," he said. "I suit the style of play and I see Hibs being the next step in my journey.

"I can dominate the ball and hopefully get us playing. I see myself as a bit of a leader so I'd like to think I can bring that side of my game to Hibs as well."

Hibs now have a teenage midfielder on their hands who is not just talking about development minutes, but titles, cups and European nights. How quickly he backs those words with performances could shape the club’s season.
