Inter Milan Closing In on Curtis Jones Deal Worth £30m

Inter Milan are edging closer to a deal worth 35m euros (£30m) for Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, with talks now centred on final details rather than the headline fee.

Liverpool knocked back a verbal offer of 25m euros (£21.7m) from the Italian champions in June, holding firm to a valuation of around £35m for the 25-year-old, who is into the final year of his contract. That stance has dragged Inter higher, and a package in the region of £30m now looks like the sweet spot.

Sources in Italy believe a verbal agreement is already in place between the clubs. Both Liverpool and Inter, though, insist there is still work to do on the structure of the deal before anything is signed off.

Liverpool are prepared to sell, but only if the numbers match their expectations. Internally, they are using the £30m outlay Inter made to sign Djed Spence from Tottenham as a benchmark, and want a similar package before green-lighting Jones’ departure.

Inter’s interest is not new. They tried to prise Jones away in January with a loan offer including an option to buy, only for Liverpool to reject the proposal and keep him for the run-in.

Jones has been part of the Liverpool first-team picture since his breakthrough under Jurgen Klopp in 2019 and has gone on to make 228 appearances for the club. Last season he featured 49 times in all competitions, but only started 18 Premier League games and found it difficult to nail down a regular starting role in Arne Slot’s midfield.

Now, with one year left on his deal and Inter pushing hard, Liverpool face a clear decision: cash in at close to their price or risk losing a long-serving midfielder for far less down the line.
