BERLIN — Harry Kane’s first full chapter in German football has its official seal of dominance.

The Bayern Munich striker has been voted Germany’s Player of the Year 2026, capping a staggering season in which he scored 61 goals in all competitions and dragged the Bavarian giants to another domestic double.

He didn’t just score. He decided trophies.

Kane struck 61 times across all tournaments, including the German Supercup, as Bayern retained their Bundesliga crown and lifted the German Cup. In the cup final, he produced a hat trick on the biggest domestic stage, underlining why defenders across Germany have spent the year chasing shadows.

The goals kept coming into the new campaign. On Saturday, Bayern beat Borussia Dortmund 2-1 to win the new season’s German Supercup. Kane didn’t get on the scoresheet this time, but his presence and movement again anchored Bayern’s attack as they claimed yet another piece of silverware.

The scale of his impact showed in the voting. In the annual poll run by Kicker magazine and the Association of German Sports Journalists (VDS), Kane collected 272 votes from 659 journalists, finishing comfortably ahead of Bayern teammate Michael Olise, who earned 203.

He finished ahead of Freiburg’s Julian Schuster, last year’s winner, to claim the 2026 honor and place his name alongside some of the most influential coaches in the German game.

Florian Wirtz held the Player of the Year title last year. This time, the award shifts decisively to Munich and to Kane, whose numbers and trophies left little room for debate.

The history behind these accolades is long and loaded with giants. The Player of the Year award has been handed out since 1960, the coaching prize since 2002. Franz Beckenbauer sits atop the player list with four wins, while Jürgen Klopp and Felix Magath share the coaching benchmark with three awards each.

Kane and Kompany have now written themselves into that tradition. The question for the rest of Germany is simple: can anyone stop them from turning this into an era rather than a single, glittering season?
