Denis Omedi's Ambitious Goals at Gor Mahia

Denis Omedi has arrived at Gor Mahia with a smile on his face and a plan he is not willing to share.

The 32-year-old Ugandan forward, signed from Rwandan giants APR FC on a two-year deal, is preparing for his first campaign with the 22-time Kenya Premier League champions, but he is keeping his personal targets firmly under lock and key.

What he is happy to talk about is the welcome.

“Generally, I can say Kenya is so welcoming. The fans, the players, the technical team, led by the head coach, and the management; everything is okay, and everyone is welcoming. The environment is okay, and I think it's supposed to be an environment worth working in,” he said.

From Kitara and Booma to Gor Mahia

Omedi’s path to K’Ogalo has not been glamorous, but it has been steady. He made his name at Kitara FC and Booma FC before earning his move to APR FC, one of Rwanda’s biggest clubs. Now he steps into an even brighter spotlight in Nairobi.

Gor Mahia, gearing up for another title charge in the 2026/27 season, moved for Omedi to add experience and cutting edge to their attack. At 32, he arrives as a finished article, not a project, and the club expects him to contribute immediately.

The forward says the transition has been smoother than many might expect.

He points to the dressing room, the technical bench and the boardroom as key pillars in that.

Omedi has quickly felt at ease, crediting the club’s structure and support system for allowing him to focus purely on football: adapting to his new surroundings, learning his teammates’ movements and understanding what it means to lead the line for one of Kenya’s biggest clubs.

A private scoreboard

If the environment is open, his ambitions are not.

Denis Omedi admits he has set “ambitious” personal objectives for his debut season in Kenyan football, but he refuses to reveal them.

“The team also has their own personal targets. But also, as an individual, I have my own personal targets that I have set for myself, and I basically know targets; if you say them out, they don't come to pass,” he said.

“So they are my own, and they are the ones that keep me motivated, and I always make sure I work so hard because I know sometimes the targets I have set scare me as well. So I know it demands a lot from me, and I believe that if I am doing it for myself, I believe that it will also benefit the team.”

Those words tell their own story. The goals he has in mind are big enough to “scare” him, demanding enough to force him into extra work, and personal enough that he will not risk diluting them by speaking publicly.

For Omedi, those private benchmarks are fuel. They are his internal scoreboard, the measure that will drive his discipline through the long campaign ahead.

Personal drive, collective ambition

What matters to Gor Mahia is that his hunger aligns with the club’s ambitions. On that front, Omedi is clear. He sees no separation between his own success and the team’s.

He believes the conditions at the club — from the training ground to the dressing-room culture — give him the ideal platform to grow, contribute and carve out a reputation in the Kenya Premier League. The better he performs, the more Gor Mahia stand to gain in their push for yet another title.
