Chelsea sets £120m deadline for Enzo Fernandez transfer to Manchester City

The clock is already ticking on one of the summer’s most combustible transfer sagas.

Chelsea have told Manchester City they have until 5pm today to come up with £120m for Enzo Fernandez. Not a penny less. No drawn‑out haggling. A hard deadline and a hard number.

City had hoped to negotiate the fee down for the Argentina international, but the mood between the clubs is cold. Chelsea were furious at how Enzo Maresca left Stamford Bridge for the Etihad, forcing City to pay £17m in compensation. The London club publicly said they felt “let down” by the Italian. Now, with Fernandez, they are in no mood for favours.

If City want their man, they know the terms. Pay up today, or walk away.

City’s midfield in flux: Rodri, Reijnders and Bouaddi

All of this unfolds while City’s midfield is being ripped up and rewritten.

Barcelona are pushing to sign Rodri and have already seen two bids turned away, the latest worth £55m according to Sky Sports News. The World Cup winner is available for £60m, and talks are still alive. City have rejected both offers so far, but the Catalan club are not backing off.

At the same time, City are ready to cash in on Tijjani Reijnders. They have agreed a £51m deal with Saudi Pro League side Al Qadsiah, with the Dutch midfielder accepting personal terms. He leaves the Etihad after just one season, having cost £46.5m from AC Milan last summer. His sale, combined with Nathan Ake’s move to Fenerbahce and James Trafford’s switch to Leeds, pushes City’s income towards the £100m mark this window.

The champions are also lining up the next wave. They are in pole position to sign World Cup breakout talent Ayyoub Bouaddi from Lille, a move that would continue a sweeping reshuffle in the centre of the pitch.

And on the flanks, another departure is edging closer. Tottenham are closing in on Savinho in a £65m deal that would take the Brazilian from City to north London, pending add-ons. Signed from Troyes in 2024 for just over £30m and still only 22, Savinho looks set to become a key part of Roberto De Zerbi’s rebuild at Spurs.

Savinho would be the latest piece in a dramatic Tottenham overhaul.

And there is business going out as well. Atletico Madrid have agreed a deal in principle to sign Cristian Romero from Spurs in a package worth around £34.2m plus add-ons, with a 15 per cent sell‑on clause included, according to Sky Sports. Inter Milan had also been interested in the Argentina defender but are now turning their focus to a move for Djed Spence.

De Zerbi’s Spurs are being torn down and rebuilt at speed. The question now is whether Savinho becomes the headline act of that new front line.

Arsenal’s Martinelli dilemma and the Osimhen twist

Across north London, Arsenal’s window is far from finished.

Mikel Arteta has been clear that the Gunners are still active, and Gabriel Martinelli sits at the centre of one of the more intriguing stories of the day. Galatasaray have submitted a £38.5m bid for the Brazilian, who is at the top of the Turkish champions’ list of targets, according to journalist Florian Plettenberg.

Arsenal have already moved for a winger in Christos Tzolis and have been linked with Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez and PSG’s Bradley Barcola. That alone would raise questions about Martinelli’s long‑term role.

Then came the twist. Talks with Galatasaray have also touched on Victor Osimhen. The Telegraph report that the clubs have discussed a potential move for the striker, though it is unclear whether Arsenal are actively driving those negotiations or whether Osimhen has been proposed to them as part of a wider package.

One scenario being floated involves Osimhen heading to Arsenal, with Martinelli moving to Istanbul and the overall fee reduced. Galatasaray would relish that kind of structure. Arsenal, searching for a new attacker, now have a major decision to make: cash in on a popular winger to land one of Europe’s most feared No 9s?

Liverpool circle as PSG play hardball on Barcola

While Arsenal weigh their options, Liverpool are locked into a waiting game of their own.

Bradley Barcola sits high on their list of targets, and the Reds are in talks with Paris Saint‑Germain over a fee. The European champions have set a brutal starting price: £145m (€170m) for the France international.

Liverpool are not rushing. GiveMeSport’s Ben Jacobs reports that if PSG sign one or more new attackers this window, Liverpool expect the French club to soften their stance and accept a lower fee. The Merseyside club are prepared to wait for that moment and have already cooled their interest in another PSG forward, Ibrahim Mbaye, because signing both would be too expensive.

PSG have already landed Maghnes Akliouche from Monaco for €50m to strengthen midfield, but they still want a winger or striker before they consider easing Barcola’s price.

Barcola, who scored three goals for France at the World Cup, is back with PSG for Wednesday’s Super Cup against Europa League winners Aston Villa in Salzburg. Luis Enrique, asked directly about the winger’s future, refused to bite.

“I don’t know and I don’t want to speak about any player individually,” he said. “Because it’s always dangerous when you are asking something positive or negative about a player. I stay focused on my team.”

The coach’s stance was clear; the door behind Barcola was not. PSG chairman Nasser Al‑Khelaifi also stopped short of ruling out a sale, saying only: “We’re working calmly, we don’t talk too much. I can’t say whether he will leave or not. Today, he is a PSG player. We’ll see.”

Arsenal are also tracking Barcola and could yet enter the race if they decide to spend heavily on a winger. For now, Liverpool wait and watch, betting that PSG’s needs elsewhere will eventually drag the price into their range.
