Bruno Guimaraes Aims to Build a Dynasty at Arsenal

Bruno Guimaraes has walked into Arsenal at full speed and with his eyes wide open. For him, this is not just a big move. It is an invitation to help build something that lasts.

Fresh from a statement 3-0 win over Manchester City in the Community Shield, Mikel Arteta’s side backed it up by brushing aside newly promoted Coventry by the same scoreline at the Emirates Stadium to begin the defence of their Premier League title. The tone for the season has been set early: ruthless, organised, unapologetically ambitious.

Guimaraes, though, had to watch his new home from the sidelines on Friday night. A groin problem picked up in Cardiff against City delayed his Emirates debut, a frustrating pause after his £75million switch from Newcastle. The excitement has not dimmed.

Arteta’s vision hooked him from their very first conversation.

“Since the first time I spoke to him, he wants to make a dynasty here, trying to win everything as possible and I am always very excited of his idea,” Guimaraes said in an interview with the Men In Blazers network on YouTube.

That word – dynasty – is not thrown around lightly. It speaks to years, not months. To multiple trophies, not just one. To a group that expects to stay at the top, not visit it.

For Guimaraes, everything is new: the dressing room, the training ground rhythms, the manager’s relentless demands. He is still learning the patterns around him.

“Everything is very new for me, and I am just trying to get used to the players, to the manager, to the staff, the way he works,” he explained. “I can say that I am still finding my best way in the group, but I love it here.”

Arteta has added one of the Premier League’s most complete midfielders to a unit that already powered Arsenal to the title. Guimaraes is not fussed about where he fits on the chalkboard. He just wants to be on it.

“I can play every position in the midfield, but this just depends on Mikel’s ideas,” he said. “He said to me that I can play everywhere, and I said yes, it just depends on you and where he wanted me to play. I am just ready to play for Arsenal, no matter where.”

The message is clear: no conditions, no caveats. Just minutes and responsibility.

Ambition, though, is where his language sharpens. Guimaraes is not interested in modest targets or gentle settling-in periods.

“I don’t have like one target – we go for everything. I think the potential we have in this team is unbelievable,” he said. “I don’t want to put targets, we need to think game again and let’s see how far we can go, but with this team, I have a big chance of winning trophies.”

The early evidence backs him up. City were swept aside 3-0 in Cardiff. Coventry were dismissed 3-0 in north London. Arsenal look like a team that has not just kept last season’s edge, but sharpened it.

Next comes Aston Villa away on Monday night, a trip that rarely allows passengers. It could offer a first glimpse of another new signing, with England defender Ezri Konsa in contention to face his former club after completing a £51m move last week. The stakes and standards are rising in every department.

Not everyone, though, appears to be part of the long-term picture. Brazilian forward Gabriel Martinelli has not featured in either the Community Shield win over City or the victory against Coventry and is reportedly closing in on a move to Saudi Arabia with Al Hilal.

As one Brazilian edges towards the exit, another talks openly about building a dynasty. Arsenal’s direction of travel is not in doubt. The only question now is how far this group can push the ceiling they are so intent on smashing.
