Arsenal's European Challenge: Arteta's Strategic Rotations in Naples

That pairing worked, and Arteta is not in the habit of breaking what holds.

If there is to be a change, it is most likely at left-back. Riccardo Calafiori has been outstanding in the opening weeks, aggressive on the front foot and calm under pressure, but his Arsenal career has already been punctuated by injury concerns. The staff know his history. They will not burn him out in September.

That is where Piero Hincapie comes in. He was the only defender on the bench against Chelsea, a quiet hint at how the pecking order currently looks. In Naples, that hint could become a full start. A fresh left-sided defender, comfortable stepping into midfield and handling pressure, is exactly the kind of option Arteta likes to spring in Europe.

Arsenal arrive in Italy as last season’s nearly men, unbeaten in normal time yet empty-handed. Now they carry a deeper squad, a sharper edge, and a clear memory of Budapest.
