Alvaro Arbeloa Backs New Talent at Real Madrid

Alvaro Arbeloa has thrown his weight behind a new generation at Real Madrid, backing Gonzalo Garcia and Cesar Palacios to make an immediate impact while promising there will be no room for friendship when he faces Xabi Alonso on the touchline.

The coach spoke with clear conviction about his latest recruits, insisting they are built for the demands he is placing on his side.

“They are young players, with a lot of talent and ambition. They fit the way we want to play and they know what I expect from them. I am very happy to have them here with me,” Arbeloa said, underlining both their potential and his intention to use them.

The backdrop to all this is change. The post-Silva era has begun, and Arbeloa did not shy away from acknowledging the work done before him while drawing a firm line under it.

“Marco did a great job. The players here were happy and comfortable with him, but now a new era begins,” he reflected. The message was respectful, but decisive. His team, his ideas, his responsibility.

“I know what I want and how I want to do it, but I also know how difficult this league is. I think we will be a difficult team to beat,” he added, setting out a clear identity: organised, stubborn, hard to break down.

And then there is Alonso.

The relationship between the two runs deep, but Arbeloa made it clear that sentiment will be switched off once the whistle blows.

“I spoke to Xabi a few days ago, but not about football. Our families are coming to London. We are very good friends, but for 90 minutes we will give everything for our clubs. For 90 minutes, we won't be friends, because we both want to win this game.”

Off the pitch, old teammates. On it, rivals with everything to prove in a new chapter of their coaching careers.
