While close to finalizing a £70 million deal for Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba, attention has shifted to strengthening the left-back position. Michael Carrick’s squad revealed defensive vulnerabilities highlighted by a costly mistake from veteran Luke Shaw, signaling the need for fresh options before the transfer window closes.

Initially, United targeted Newcastle’s Lewis Hall to solve their defensive issues, but the Magpies are unwilling to part ways with the former Chelsea player. This forced the club to turn their gaze towards Catalonia, where Balde has emerged as a prime candidate according to Fabrizio Romano.

Reports from Jijantes reveal that Balde has decided to move on from Barcelona. The La Masia academy product, crucial in Barcelona’s recent title win, feels uncertain about his future under coach Hansi Flick. Last season, the Spanish international started 21 league matches but missed 10 due to hamstring and muscle injuries. The arrival of Joao Cancelo on a free transfer for his third stint at the club has heightened competition for the left-back spot.

Balde’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is actively pursuing a transfer, with preliminary talks already underway with Manchester United.

Flick Addresses Balde Transfer Rumors

"He’s a player of immense quality, and it’s important to know if he’s confident he can compete in his position. That’s what I want to see from all my players. Every day I observe what they do, their level, whether they demonstrate that they’re at the level to play," said Flick ahead of Barcelona’s match against Elche.

The coach stressed the importance of team unity over individual concerns during this transitional phase: "Ultimately, we have to play as a team; only then will we achieve success. I need everyone to be one hundred percent."

With the deadline drawing near, the situation at Camp Nou remains unsettled. Flick did not rule out further departures, pointing out the significant changes happening within the club.

"We’re making a lot of changes within the club, so we may have to wait until the transfer window closes. That’s normal," Flick said. "When you decide to bring in new players, you also have to consider how to strengthen the team. The situation has been made very clear to the players, and now we must wait until the end of the market to see what happens."
