2026 PFA Awards Celebrate Top English Football Talent

The 53rd edition of the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Awards took place on Tuesday night at the Manchester Opera House, recognizing outstanding performances in English football across multiple leagues. This year’s ceremony honored players from the Premier League, EFL Championship, League One and Two, as well as the Women’s Super League (WSL) and Women’s Super League 2, covering the 2025–26 season.

The awards, including Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year, and Team of the Year selections, were decided by votes from the players themselves.

Men’s Player of the Year: Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Fernandes earned the men’s Player of the Year title after setting a new Premier League record with 21 assists in a single season. The Manchester United midfielder is the first from the club to win this award since Wayne Rooney in 2010. Fernandes also claimed the same honor earlier this year from the Football Writers’ Association.

Women’s Player of the Year: Khadija “Bunny” Shaw

Khadija "Bunny" Shaw, forward for Manchester City, secured her second women’s Player of the Year award. Shaw made history by becoming the first player to win three consecutive WSL golden boots, scoring 21 goals in 22 appearances and leading City to the league title. She also won the Football Writers’ Association award back in May.

Young Player of the Year Honors

Manchester City’s 21-year-old star Nico O’Reilly was named men’s Young Player of the Year. Meanwhile, Olivia Smith from Arsenal claimed the women’s Young Player of the Year for the second straight season.

Birmingham City’s Lily Crosthwaite was recognized as the inaugural WSL2 Player of the Year. For League One and League Two honors, Dom Ballard and Aaron Drinan were named best players respectively.

"Bruno Fernandes is the PFA Players’ Player of the Year," tweeted the PFA shortly after the announcement.

"The PFA Players’ Player of the Year is Bunny Shaw," the PFA confirmed on their official channel.
